Pediatric EEG Monitoring Service: What to Expect

Published 2/9/2023

Neurotech provides innovative in-home, video EEG monitoring services that are clinically comprehensive, monitored continuously, and dedicated to constant improvement. We are committed to improving the lives of patients and families dealing with epileptic seizures, and we are doing that by creating accessible and convenient EEG monitoring services that are on the cutting edge of industry technology.

As parents of pediatric patients, we know how scary it can be to watch a child experience epileptic seizures. We know that the safety and care of your child is your main priority and that the healthcare professionals you work with should be experienced, knowledgeable, and have your child’s best interest in mind.

Neurotech’s in-home EEG monitoring service is a preferred option for many parents when seeking treatment for their children because it provides convenience and exceptional treatment in a familiar setting. If your child has an appointment for their first in-home EEG monitoring service, here is what you can expect and how you can prepare.

Before Your Appointment

Parents can take comfort in knowing that Neurotech technologists are trained and experienced in working with pediatric and special needs patients and will work with patients to ensure they are comfortable.

Before your appointment, you should prepare for your child to be inside the home all day and ensure they will be comfortable throughout the study. A Neurotech EEG technologist will call you 24-48 hours before your appointment to ensure that everything is confirmed and prepared for their arrival. They will also talk you through the procedure and help you complete a health questionnaire. Please plan on supervising your child for the entire duration of the EEG monitoring service.

EEG Hookup Appointment

On the day of your study, a Neurotech EEG technologist will come to your home to set up and start the in-home EEG monitoring service. The technologist will then measure and mark the patient's head and apply 21-23 EEG electrodes. These electrodes will record the brain’s electrical activity. Once the electrodes are in place, the technologist will wrap the patient's head in a conforming bandage to ensure that the EEG wires stay in place for the duration of the study. Your Neurotech technologist will walk you through how the equipment works, how to mark events and seizures, and how to contact Neurotech support staff during the study. A laptop and, if necessary, a video camera will be left with you to facilitate remote monitoring. Once the study begins, it is crucial that your child stays in the same room as the laptop and camera for the duration of the appointment to ensure accurate and continuous remote reading by your physician.

Remote Monitoring

Once you are all set up, the technician will leave your home and from there, a Neurotech monitoring technician will be able to log in remotely and check on the progress of the study. If there are any issues with the integrity of the recording, a remote monitoring technologist may call to ensure that the electrode connectivity and laptop signal are working properly. If issues cannot be fixed over the phone, an on-call technician will be dispatched to your home to correct the issue. A remote monitoring technologist will be available 24/7 to answer any questions or concerns you may have throughout the study. Once your child’s EEG monitoring service is complete, your remote monitoring technologist will stop the recording and will assist you in disconnecting your equipment. A Neurotech technician will then promptly pick up the equipment from your home.

Remote, in-home EEG monitoring is just one of the EEG monitoring services that Neurotech provides to improve patient outcomes and quality of life. Your child will be able to receive exceptional care from the comfort and privacy of their home, and you as the parent can relax knowing progress is being made toward their health.
