Epilepsy Community

Neurotech is proud to be an actively engaged member of the larger epilepsy community. We are dedicated to educating ourselves to remain abreast of the latest research findings, recommended treatments and other significant changes relating to epilepsy and other neurological disorders.

Epilepsy is a chronic medical condition marked by repeated intermittent seizures (an event of altered brain function caused by abnormal or excessive electrical discharges from brain cells). As one of the most common neurological disorders, epilepsy affects up to 1 percent of the population in the United States. More than 45,000 children ages 18 and younger are diagnosed with epilepsy every year.

Epilepsy has several causes, which can be genetic or acquired (post-encephalitis). Other causes could include a shortage of oxygen (post-hypoxia) or a brain injury (post-trauma) occurring any time in life. Epilepsy/seizures can be treated a number of ways, however, medication is the most common approach used.
